If you're already using a custom set of Linchpin apps in your Confluence and would like to switch to the Linchpin Intranet Suite instead, here's what you need to do:

Migrate to the Linchpin Intranet Suite in four steps

Backup your data

To back up your data, please first make a copy of the database. This is usually done by your Confluence system administrator.

We recommend that you first perform the migration on a test instance regardless of whether you have performed a backup or not.

Install the Linchpin Intranet Suite

Now install the latest version of Linchpin Intranet Suite either by uploading the installation file or installing it via the Atlassian Marketplace.

Do not uninstall or update any Linchpin app from your previously installed custom set of Linchpin apps

Please do not uninstall or update any Linchpin app from your previously installed custom set of Linchpin apps before upgrading to the Linchpin Intranet Suite, as this might cause database incompatibilities and issues with future version updates of the Linchpin Intranet Suite.

If you've been updating your custom set of Linchpin apps on a regular basis, installing the Linchpin Intranet Suite might not install the entire set of Linchpin apps bundled in the suite initially. This happens because the Linchpin Intranet Suite installer performs a version check in the background and installs only those Linchpin apps from the suite bundle that have a version newer than the one already available in your system. After this initial installation of the Linchpin Intranet Suite please do not uninstall or update any custom Linchpin apps remaining on your system, and instead wait for the next release of the Linchpin Intranet Suite. When you install the next Linchpin Intranet Suite release, the remaining custom Linchpin apps will be updated and switched to the version of the suite, if the suite bundle provides a newer version.

Due to technical reasons the Linchpin app Linchpin Personalized Content is not yet included in the Linchpin Intranet Suite.

Quality assurance

Please check that all Linchpin apps are listed and active in the Confluence App Manager. Then perform a quality assurance review on the apps and data as needed.

Optional: Deactivate apps not needed

Depending on the apps that made up your prior custom Linchpin set, additional apps may have been installed with the Linchpin Intranet Suite. The Linchpin Intranet Suite provides you with a fixed set of features. If you do not want to use one of these features, you can deactivate the app in Confluence's Universal Plugin Manager at any time.

FAQs when updating the Linchpin Intranet Suite to the latest version

How do app updates work after installing the Linchpin Intranet Suite? Can I still update individual apps? 

  • Update notifications for individual apps are no longer displayed in the Confluence App Manager after installing the Linchpin Intranet Suite.
  • As soon as a new version of the Linchpin Intranet Suite is available in the Marketplace, you will see a single update for the Linchpin Intranet Suite app displayed in Confluence's Universal Plugin Manager.
  • After updating the Linchpin Intranet Suite the latest version for all apps within the bundle are available in your Confluence.

(Warnung) Please do not update single Linchpin apps manually via the Atlassian Marketplace once you switched to the Linchpin Intranet Suite bundle since doing so might cause cause database incompatibilities and issues with future version updates of the Linchpin Intranet Suite.

How often will Linchpin Intranet Suite updates be released? 

  • We will release major (feature) updates for the Linchpin Intranet Suite roughly every 10 weeks.
  • In addition to these planned feature releases we may also provide important bugfix updates on an ad-hoc basis for the Linchpin Intranet Suite via the Atlassian Marketplace.
  • Please note that we will only provide hotfix updates for the latest version of the Linchpin Intranet Suite.

How often should I update my Linchpin Intranet Suite? 

  • We strongly recommend to update the Linchpin Intranet Suite to the latest version available in the Atlassian Marketplace.
  • You should always perform a dry run for any version update of the Linchpin Intranet Suite on a testing instance (idealically with content data cloned from production) before updating your production instance.
  • We consider any major release of the Linchpin Intranet Suite to be 'production ready' but as issues sometimes only occur under specific circumstances we'll also release ad-hoc updates for critical bugs.
  • Please note that we will only provide ad-hoc hotfix updates for the latest version of the Linchpin Intranet Suite.
