If you're already using a custom set of Linchpin apps in your Confluence and would like to switch to the Linchpin Intranet Suite instead, follow the steps below.

Migrate to the Linchpin Intranet Suite in four steps

Backup your data

To back up your data, please make a copy of the database first. This is usually done by your Confluence system administrator.

We recommend to perform the migration on a test instance first, regardless of whether you have performed a backup or not.

Install the Linchpin Intranet Suite

Now, install the latest version of the Linchpin Intranet Suite. To do this, either upload the installation file onto your server or install the suite via the Atlassian Marketplace. It is not necessary to update any individual Linchpin apps before you upgrade to the Linchpin Intranet Suite.

See what's new in the latest release: https://seibert.biz/linchpinlatestrelease.

Known issue regarding a hanging update process

If you have the app Linchpin User Profiles installed, the installation process of the Linchpin Intranet Suite app may hang in very rare cases. To prevent running into this situation, you should uninstall the app Linchpin User Profiles first, before you install the Linchpin Intranet Suite app (the app Linchpin User Profiles will then be installed again with the Suite installation).

Further information can be found in this knowledge base article:  Installation or update of Linchpin Intranet Suite hangs.

If you've updated your custom set of Linchpin apps regularly, the Linchpin Intranet Suite might not install the entire set of Linchpin apps.

The Linchpin Intranet Suite installer performs a version check in the background. The suite installs only bundled Linchpin apps that have a newer version than the one already installed on your system.

After this initial installation of the Linchpin Intranet Suite, please do not uninstall or update any custom Linchpin apps remaining in your system.

Instead, wait for the next release of the Linchpin Intranet Suite. The next Linchpin Intranet Suite update will automatically update all remaining apps if the suite offers a newer app version than your custom app.

Quality assurance

First of all, please make sure that all Linchpin apps are listed in the Confluence App Manager. Those apps should also be listed as active.

Then, perform a quality assurance review on the apps and data as needed.

If you have any problems, please contact your account manager or contact our support team: https://seibert.biz/help

Optional: Deactivate not needed apps

Since the Linchpin Intranet Suite provides you with a fixed set of features, additional apps may have been installed with your upgrade.

If you do not want to use any of those features, you can deactivate individual apps in the Confluence Universal Plugin Manager at any time.

Migration to Linchpin Intranet Suite with simultaneous upgrade of licenses

The migration from single Linchpin apps to the Linchpin Intranet Suite can be a bit different if the amount of user licenses changes, too.

Uninstall all single apps with old licenses

After the installation of the Linchpin Intranet Suite with a new (higher) amount of licenses, apps which were previously activated as single apps (without the Suite) with other amount of licenses will display a warning inside the App Manager.

Please uninstall all apps with the warning "Upgrade Required".

Then, please install the latest version of the Linchpin Intranet Suite again. To do this, either upload the installation file onto your server or install the suite via the Atlassian Marketplace.

Quality assurance

First of all, please make sure that all Linchpin apps are listed in the Confluence App Manager. Those apps should also be listed as active.

Reindex all your pages. This can be done inside the Confluence administration, via a pop-up window in the right upper corner. You will be asked to reindex your pages automatically, every time you install the Linchpin Intranet Suite.

You might have to reactivate the navigation menu. Furthermore, make sure that Linchpin Theme is activated in Confluence administration → Look and Feel → Themes.

It might also be necessary to clear all Confluence caches!

Then, perform a quality assurance review on the apps and data as needed.

My Linchpin apps don't work after a migration to the Suite

Did you migrate your single apps to the Linchpin Intranet Suite and now some apps don't work anymore?

This might be the case if your Linchpin apps had a newer app version than the apps which were delivered with the Suite.

In this case, some things inside the app structure and functionality might have changed and the older app version which is included in the Linchpin Intranet Suite can't properly read the information anymore.

In this case, we recommend to wait for a new release of the Linchpin Intranet Suite. A new version of the Suite will include newer app versions and fix the problem.

Your data should not be lost due to a migration.

If your apps don't work anymore (for example: News macros can't display news properly) it means that something in the app's structure changed and the older version of the app simply can't read the newer information stored in your system.

We can't recommend a downgrade of an app. Some downgrades may cause problems due to incompatibility with the newer data or incompatibility with other apps.

If you wish to try and downgrade the apps instead of waiting for a new Suite release, please use a test instance first. And remember that you do this at your own risk.
