The Ignored Leviathan

When we talk about Intranets today, most commonly we talk about Microsoft Sharepoint, IBM Connections, or LiveLink, just to name a few of the big players. Not too rarely when we speak about such Intranet solutions, people tell us that they don't like to work with them and that they perceive them as cumbersome, sluggish, and difficult to use.  Most users either just content with only consuming information from them or even ignore them completely. Why is this and what makes an Intranet a great tool that is fun to use?
