Summary & Highlights

Welcome to Linchpin Intranet Suite 4.0!

The Linchpin Intranet Suite 4.0 release contains many new features, improvements and a number of bugfixes.

We prepared a short summary of the most important changes, so you can keep track of them. To learn more about a specific topic, simply use the navigation to jump to that part of the release notes.

Let's have a look at Linchpin User Profiles and the new OrgCharts again, which have been introduced in Linchpin Suite 3.4. They have been improved so you can now add the most important hierarchies to the people directory. In addition, you can use the new org charts macro to directly show smaller parts of your organization in the context where they are needed.

Speaking of the people directory: We have improved the search and filter capabilities of the people directory to support more field types, so it is easier to find people in your organization.
In addition, we have made several improvements to the LDAP and XML imports. The usability for both has been improved and it is easier to identify challenges.

In our Microblog, we have updated the capabilities to handle content and attachments. It is a lot more intuitive to share images, videos, PDFs and other files in a micropost. In order to do that, content and attachments are now visually separated. Drag and Drop your files onto the post and they will be added as a list or gallery at the end of the micropost, where they can be easily downloaded by other users.

There is also something else to share in Microblog posts now: Linchpin Events can be added to a micropost, allowing users to see the event details and sign up for it right there. Events now also display whether the event is happening onsite, exclusively remote, or a mix of the two. Additional information about each event has also been added to the notification mails that you receive.

Linchpin Mobile now offers the mobile Event hub, where you can explore and interact with all events on the go! The event macros are available as well and you can easily sign up to events everywhere. The mobile version of the Microblog was updated as well, so you can benefit from all improvements made to the desktop version of the microblog as well.

Introducing: Collapsible Admin Menu. We're very excited to integrate this free app of ours into the Linchpin Intranet Suite, since we use it on all our Linchpin installations anyway. It reorganizes the administration sidebar for Confluence admins, includes a search bar and makes it easier to find those menu entries that you are looking for. The configuration sections for Linchpin apps have been reorganized with a focus on grouping related items together.

Important

When updating from a version before 2.0.1, or from versions 3.0.0 / 3.0.1, you might be affected by an issue that could cause the installation or the update of the Linchpin Intranet Suite to hang. Please follow the steps described in our knowledge base, prior to updating.

Onboarding, Pings & Manager

Linchpin Pings now offers a new module to show simple text messages.
The Linchpin Manager app that was deprecated in Linchpin Suite 3.4.0 is no longer included.

Changes

  • The Linchpin Manager app, which has been deprecated for quite some time, is no longer included in the Linchpin Intranet Suite. Starting with this release, personalization features across all Linchpin apps will only work if the Linchpin Suite is installed and has a valid license. After the update it is safe to uninstall the Linchpin Manager app.

New features

  • We introduced a new Linchpin Pings module for simple text messages. Use this to make general announcements, introduce new features, link to important content or anything else that crosses your mind.

Bugfixes

  • We fixed some minor user interface flaw. The Linchpin Pings dialog will now hold back so it doesn't cover other dialogs that are already open. It will of course return once you turn the page and the coast is clear (wink)

User Profiles

This release of Linchpin User Profiles adds many improvements in the people directory and the org charts. We also made the profile data synchronisation easier for your administrators.

New features

  • Finding the right people is now easier than ever with the new people directory search and filters. Almost all profile field types are now searchable, and the search results update in real-time.
  • Show org charts in the people directory for one or more top-level users.
  • Use the new org chart macro to display team structures on any page.

Improvements

  • We have deprecated the field type "LDAP". Use text fields with LDAP data source instead, see https://seibert.biz/userprofilesldapfield.
  • When changing a profile field with LDAP or XML data source, you can start a sync right from the configuration page. We will also remind you that in some cases it's useful to deactivate the incremental LDAP sync.
  • When configuring profile pictures to be retrieved from URLs, you can directly check the availability and run the sync. Also, users can start the profile picture sync for themselves from their profile when they see that profile picture and small avatar don't match anymore.
  • We clarified the configuration of LDAP directories and incremental sync a little bit.

Bugfixes

  • Allow translating the Linchpin Onboarding module content again.
  • Fields of type "user" now correctly display the full name in the profile macro or vcard.
  • We don't display placeholders anymore when you can't edit your phone number.
  • Several visual fixes.

Microblogging for Confluence

With the improved handling of attachments of all kinds, it is easier and more intuitive than ever to share attachments like images, videos or documents with the Microblog. In addition it is now possible to share Linchpin events and Confluence pages directly in the microblog, thus generating more attention for the most important content of your social intranet.

New features

  • Image gallery for consistent appearance of images in the microblog (1-4+ images).
  • Videos can be embedded as players via video URL if the video service supports this.
  • A new and easier to use preview of images was implemented.

Improvements

  • Content and attachments of microposts are displayed separately, which makes the usability and visibility of the content clear and simple.
  • File attachments are attached to a micropost as a file list and can be easily downloaded.
  • Multi-upload of files is now possible via Drag&Drop and the upload buttons.
  • Changing the Microblog topic is now possible for existing posts.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed problems with the attachment handling when deleting Confluence spaces.

With the accompanying app version, you can finally discover events while on the go and sign up easily. We have also redesigned the mobile microblog for you: Pictures, galleries, videos, file attachments, shared pages and events now provide improved interactions and look even better. Last but not least, we have fixed some bugs and optimized the overall app performance.
