Set up news categories

News Categories categorize your news by topics which are independent from spaces or labels. Unlike with standard Confluence labels, you can use uppercase letters and spaces in the names of your categories. Categories are also clickable. Click on a category to open all news of this category in an overlay feed.

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Enterprise News → Categories.

Enter the name of your new category within the text input area.

Then, click on the Save button.

Set up default subscriptions

Default subscriptions are useful for new users. New users won't have any personal subscriptions at the start of their Intranet usage. Default subscriptions allow to get started with the Intranet right away.

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Enterprise News → Personal news subscriptions → Default subscriptions.

Switch to the Default subscriptions tab.

Click on the +Add space(s) button.

Enter a space within the available text field. Repeat for as many spaces as you wish.

Finally, click on the Save button. You're done!

Set up obligatory subscriptions

Obligatory subscriptions can not be removed by a normal user.

Therefore the name - obligatory. A user will always see news from spaces rendered as obligatory.

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin → Enterprise News → Personal news subscriptions → Obligatory subscriptions.

Within the Obligatory space subscriptions tab, you can define which spaces contain news which should be obligatory.

Enter spaces which contain obligatory news into the input field(s).

Configure spaces eligible for mandatory news

A mandatory news article is displayed to all Confluence users with read permissions in spaces with said article(s) as an overlay when they open Confluence the next time (or simply refresh/visit a page).

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Enterprise News → Configuration → Mandatory News.

In the Activate space text field, enter the space in which mandatory news should be activated.

Repeat this step for more spaces, if you wish to.

Now you will have to authorize users within the space tools to mark news as mandatory.

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Enterprise News → Configuration → Mandatory News.

In the Activate space text field, enter the space in which mandatory news should be activated.

Repeat this step for more spaces, if you wish to.

Keep in mind that the defined editors are only valid for this specific space.

If more spaces use mandatory news, you will have to define the editor(s) in the respective space tools, too.

How to force display news articles to users

Create a news article in a space with active mandatory news.

While viewing the news article, click on the  three dots button.

In the now open context menu, click on the Force display button.

A hint will be displayed. Click on the new Force display button within the hint.
