In order to use news with Linchpin Mobile you need the Linchpin Enterprise News app for Confluence. The app can be purchased via the Atlassian Marketplace.

How to configure mobile news stream content



1. Configuring News Sections via Linchpin Enterprise News


Log on to your Confluence instance as an administrator.

Navigate in the administration area to the "News Sections" menu item under the "Linchpin Enterprise News" category and create one or more news sections for mobile usage.

(info) Please note: There is no need for a mobile-only news section - you can also reuse your already existing news sections.

2. Setting News Sections for Mobile usage


Navigate to the "News" menu item under the "Linchpin Mobile" category, select a news section from the dropdown, and add it to the list of news sections for mobile usage.

You can select multiple news sections for mobile usage by simply repeating this step.

(info) Please note: The Linchpin Mobile app offers two separate news streams by default: One stream that can be configured by the administration (left news tab in the mobile app), and one stream that can be configured by the user (right news tab in the mobile app). This tutorial supports with setting up the left news tab in the app.



3. Re-login with Linchpin Mobile for the new configuration to apply


The new configuration for mobile news sections applies for each user after his or her next login to the instance.

In order to verify your new configuration you can manually re-login to your Confluence or Linchpin instance. Simply go to the "More" tab within the app, press "Switch system" and select the instance you have just been connected to from the list. You should now be presented with news based on the new configuration.

4. Manage News Sections for Mobile usage


You can manage the news sections for mobile usage by navigating to the "News" menu item under the "Linchpin Mobile" category. Simply edit your configuration by adding new news section to the list or removing existing ones by clicking "Delete" for any list item.









How to configure news push notifications




1. Accessing push notifications configuration for news posts


Log on to your Confluence instance as an administrator.

Navigate to the "News" menu item under the "Linchpin Mobile" category and click on the "Push notifications" tab.

2. Enabling push notifications for news posts


Switch the toggle to "on" in order to activate push notifications for news posts published in any non-personal space.

(info) Please note: If your Confluence is running behind a firewall please make sure to allowlist https://fcm.googleapis.com in order to make the feature work properly.



3. Configuring mobile news sections that trigger push notifications


You can manage the news sections that trigger a push notification on new news posts by navigating to the "News" menu item under the "Linchpin Mobile" category. Simply edit your configuration by activating / deactivating the "Push Notification" trigger for any news section in the list.










How to configure mobile news tabs




1. Accessing mobile news tab configuration


Log on to your Confluence instance as an administrator.

Navigate to the "News" menu item under the "Linchpin Mobile" category and click on the "App Configuration" tab.

2. Renaming mobile news tabs


You can edit the text labels for both news stream tabs being displayed in the Linchpin Mobile app. Save any changes made by clicking the "Save" button.

(info) Please note: The left tab always contains the news stream configurable by the administrator (commonly named "Corporate News"). The right tab always contains the news stream configurable by the user via Confluence (commonly named "Personal News").



3. Re-login with Linchpin Mobile for the new configuration to apply


The new configuration for mobile news tabs applies for each user after his or her next login to the instance.

In order to verify your new configuration you can manually re-login to your Confluence or Linchpin instance. Simply go to the "More" tab within the app, press "Switch system" and select the instance you have just been connected to from the list. You should now be presented with text labels based on the new configuration.

4. Disabling the second news tab (Personal news stream)


You can completely disable the second news stream (content configurable by the user) by switching off the toggle in the Confluence administration panel.



5. Re-login with Linchpin Mobile for the new configuration to apply


The new configuration for mobile news tabs applies for each user after his or her next login to the instance.

In order to verify your new configuration you can manually re-login to your Confluence or Linchpin instance. Simply go to the "More" tab within the app, press "Switch system" and select the instance you have just been connected to from the list. You should now be presented without any news tabs and see the remaining news stream fullscreen.
