Adding a global timeline to a wiki page

  1. Create or edit a page.
  2. Add "Other macro".
  3. Search for "global timeline" in the macro selector.
  4. After clicking on "Global Microblog Timeline" add the "Default space for posting" - this is the space where new microposts will be posted. If you leave the field blank, users will not be able to create new microposts from this global timeline (they will still be able to answer existing posts).
  5. Optionally enter the number of shown microposts on a page - default is 20. The limit applies to "parent" microposts, not to replies. When there are more posts in the microblog, a "Show more posts" link is displayed.
  6. Optionally enter the number initially shown replies for a certain micropost - default is 3. When there are more replies to a micropost, they can be shown by clicking on a "X more replies" link.
  7. Click on "Insert".
  8. Click on "Save" - You should see all microposts in your Confluence wiki.

2. Add "other macro"

4. Set Default Space

7. All Microblog Posts

Adding a global timeline to the Confluence wiki dashboard

This guide assumes that you use the Confluence Default Theme and that you have admin rights to change the layout of the Confluence dashboard.

  1. Go to the "Confluence Admin".
  2. Click on "Layouts" in the left menu.
  3. Edit the Global Layout
  4. Add the snippet $helper.renderConfluenceMacro("{globaltimeline:defaultSpaceKeyForGlobalMicroblog=YOURDEFAULTSPACEKEY}") where you want the Global Microblog Timeline macro in your dashboard - change YOURDEFAULTSPACEKEY to the your chosen default space.

    ...
    <div class="dashboard-group left">
    	<div class="dashboard-item">
        	$helper.renderConfluenceMacro("{globaltimeline:defaultSpaceKeyForGlobalMicroblog=MIC}")
        </div>
    ...

    We recommend to add the Microblog macro in left column at the top so that people stay on top of important information in your company

  5. Save the Global Layout - on the dashboard you should see the global timeline.

The daily digest job

There is a scheduled job for sending out the microblog daily digest. It runs every hour (the same interval the user can choose) und sends an email to every user who configured this hour to receive their digest. You can disable the job or change the interval, but then your users won't get their information at their chosen time.
