Prepare content for personalization

It's wise to prepare the content before you start the configuration.

Create multiple pages

To display personalized pages with the help of Linchpin Personalized Content, you must create several individual pages.

For example: If you wish to personalize the dashboard for every department, you will need an individual page for each department.

Place all content inside the Excerpt macro.

All content must be placed inside the Excerpt macro.

All content for personalization must also be placed on the same page.

You can not link multiple pages to the same user profile value. Only the first linked page will be used.

Example:

You want to personalize the dashboard based on the value "department". You have to create a page for each department. All content for the IT department must be inside the Excerpt macro and on the same page. You can not create two pages for the IT department and display them both.

Content outside the macro will be visible on the page, but will not appear in personalized sections.

Create content groups

Content groups link individual pages to user profile values. They create the personalized content.

Navigate to the configuration screen

Navigate to Confluence administration > Linchpin Personalized Content > Configure.

Alternatively, click on the settings button in your Linchpin header, then click on the Personalized Content link.

Configure the personalization values

Select the Personalization tab.

The content displayed by Linchpin Personalized Content is based on user profiles information.

Choose up to three attributes for personalization.

You don't have to use all three attributes. But you can use several attributes to create a more precise personalization.

Please note that if you do use several attributes, all attributes must match with the info inside the user profiles.

For example:

If you only select department as your attribute and link it to the IT department, every IT coworker will see the personalized content.

If you select department and branch as your attributes and link them to the IT department and the Washington branch, all IT coworkers from Washington will see the personalized content. Other IT coworkers who work for different branches will not see the personalized content.

Create a content group

Now switch to the Content Groups tab.

To create a new content group, click on the + Add content group button.

A pop-up window will open. Enter a name for the content group and click on the OK button.

Add pages to a content group

Enter the name of the page in the left column. A drop-down menu will open. From there, you can select the right page.

In the right column, you have to enter the user profile values configured under the Personalization tab.

Once done, click on the Save button.

Use personalized content

You can add personalized content to any Confluence page. You can also add personalized content to blog posts.

Use the Profile based content macro

To create personalized sections, add the Profile based content macro to any of your pages or blog posts.

Then, select the content group you wish to display. Click on the Save button.

Optional: Personalize the dashboard

Navigate to Confluence administration > Configuration > Global Templates and Blueprints.

Scroll down until you find the System templates section. You need to edit the Default Welcome Message. To do so, click on the Edit button next to it.

Insert the Profile based content macro into the Default Welcome Message.

Select the content group which contains your dashboards. Click on the Save button.
