This guide was created to help you with the setup of Linchpin Mobile. See what can be configured and how you can do it.

Installation via the Universal Plugin Manager

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Log in to your Confluence instance as an administrator.

  2. Open the Confluence general administration.
    1. Click on the Find new apps link in the sidebar.
  3. Enter "Linchpin Mobile" in the search field (marked by the text "Search the Marketplace"), then press Enter.
  4. Click on "Free trial" to test the app for 30 days, or click on "Buy now" if you want to purchase a license for Linchpin Mobile.
  5. You'll be prompted to register for or log into MyAtlassian.
  6. Linchpin Mobile will be automatically downloaded and installed after you log-in.

In order to use Linchpin Mobile with your Confluence your instance needs to meet the prerequisites listed below:

  • Confluence Server or DataCenter (for version specification please see the Atlassian Marketplace)
  • Valid Confluence license
  • Confluence administrator permissions
  • System add-on 'Confluence mobile plugin' (Confluence 6.7 or below) / 'Confluence mobile web plugin' (Confluence 6.8 or above) enabled

Configure the Linchpin Mobile Gateway

This step is optional.

If your Confluence system is not located behind a firewall, you don't need a gateway.

Important: When connecting your Confluence to the Linchpin Mobile Gateway please make sure that there is a direct connection available (no proxy inbetween) and the Gateway target IP is whitelisted for outgoing HTTPS-connections (port 443) in your firewall.

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Mobile → Connection settings.

Select your preferred gateway.

From the dropdown menu, select either //SEIBERT/MEDIA gateway service (if you intend to use our cloud-based service) or Custom gateway service (if you are using the on-site version of Linchpin Mobile Gateway).

Enter your gateway credentials (for custom gateways).

If you use a custom gateway, Linchpin Mobile must connect to said gateway.

Enter the URL of your gateway.

Enter the password to your gateway.

Click on the Connect to Custom gateway service (on-site) button.

Connect to the gateway (for //SEIBERT/MEDIA hosted gateways).

If you want to use a the //SEIBERT/MEDIA gateway, you only need to connect to it.

Click on the Connect to //SEIBERT/MEDIA hosted gateway service button.

A warning will appear. Click on the Confirm button.

Grant access to the system for new mobile devices

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Mobile → Connection settings → Device management.

Register new devices.

You can individually create QR codes for users.

Enter the name of the user you wish to create a QR code for. Then, click on the Generate QR code button.

Send said QR code to your user (the code can be saved as an image). The user will be able to register for your mobile app with it.

Alternatively allow users to generate their own QR codes.

Activate the toggle.

This will allow every user to register their mobile device via QR code from within their user profile (User profile → Mobile access).

Configure mobile news

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Mobile → News.

Manage news sections.

Here you can configure which news should be displayed within the Corporate news (left tab) section of Linchpin Mobile.

If no news sections are configured here, all news will be displayed.

If you wish to display only specific news sections, add them to the filter.

You can also enable push notifications for individual news sections.

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Mobile → News → News Section.

Select a news section from the drop down menu. Then, click on the Add button.

Repeat this step for every news section you want to include in Linchpin Mobile.

If you wish to enable push notificationsactivate the slider next to the new section's title.

If you wish to remove a news section, click on the Delete button.

Enable push notifications.

By default, push notifications are disabled.

You can enable push notifications for your users. 

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Mobile → News → Push notifications.

Activate the Enable push notifications (global) button. 

Please note that Linchpin Mobile push notifications use the Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) service by Google. If push notifications are enabled, some data will be sent to a Google server.
