Summary & Highlights

Welcome to Linchpin Intranet Suite 3.4!

The Linchpin Intranet Suite 3.4 release contains many new features, improvements and some bugfixes.

We prepared a short summary of the most important changes, so you can keep track of them. If you want more info about a specific function, use the navigation to jump to this function's release notes.

Introducing: Linchpin Setup Assistant

It has never been easier to configure a linchpin from scratch.
With the new Setup Assistant you have the possibility to turn a Confluence into a pre-configured, usable Linchpin Intranet within a few clicks.

In detail, the following steps are included in this Setp-by-Step Assistant for configuration:

  1. Upload your intranet logo: With a reduced and intuitive logo upload you can upload your company logo quickly and easily
  2. Set the primary color: Choose from predefined colors, a custom hex value or automatically generated colors based on the uploaded logo and set your primary color. You will see the effects directly in the Setup Assistant.
  3. Choose your suitable default dashboard: If you start with a new Linchpin you want to get a nice and usable result quickly. You have the possibility to define one of two dashboards directly as template and homepage in your Linchpin and so you don't have to worry about using macros or page structures. We have learned from a lot of Linchpin projects and used our experience to design these dashboards.
  4. Choose whether you want to start with or without demo content: We have put a lot of time and effort into creating meaningful and actually reusable demo content and want to give you the opportunity to experience the potential of Linchpin right from the start. A lot of helpful content on project launch, useful further configurations and links can be found here if you click through.

With the new Setup Assistant it takes only 10 minutes to configure a Linchpin-based social intranet from a Confluence and make it usable.

Let's begin with Linchpin Enterprise News. News editors can now reject news items that have been submitted for approval. If a news item is rejected, the author is notified about the reasons.

Furthermore, authors can now revise news that have been scheduled or submitted for approval (they could not do that themselves before).

The News Magazines received the option to include your logos or other images so you can make them more individual and pretty.

And last but not least - Blueprint Creator 3.1.0 is now integrated into Linchpin Enterprise News. Set a publication date, select a teaser image and a news category directly in the blueprint of a blog post.

Moving on to Linchpin User Profiles. In this release we introduce brand new Org Charts.

The Org Charts received a complete overhaul and redesign. Now, the Org Charts are more dynamic - you can zoom in or out, move the view field via drag & drop and collapse or expand individual paths/branches.

Linchpin Events received two new features. First of all, deleted users are now correctly anonymized throughout the product, making sure it is compliant with GDPR.

Additionally, events and even event categories now provide a direct link. The direct link to an event enables to share events directly, and we made sure that the links will be resolved correctly, even when shared in chat rooms. Links to event categories now lead you to a pre-filtered view of the event hub.

Microblogging for Confluence received a redesign. It is now more modern and intuitive.

In Linchpin Theme, it is now possible to define a custom height for the Linchpin Teaser macros (valid for Icon Teasers and Image Teasers). Furthermore it is now possible to set a maximum dashboard width.

And last but not least - the Linchpin Manager is dead. We migrated Linchpin Pings (formerly known as Linchpin Assistant) and Linchpin Onboarding into the Linchpin Intranet Suite. Since those two are now part of the suite and the Linchpin Manager can't be obtained from the marketplace anyway, we are officially ending the life of the standalone Linchpin Manager app.

Important

When updating from a version before 2.0.1, or from versions 3.0.0 / 3.0.1, you might be affected by an issue that could cause the installation or the update of the Linchpin Intranet Suite to hang. Please follow the steps described in our knowledge base, prior to updating.

Onboarding, Pings & Manager

Linchpin Onboarding and Linchpin Pings (formerly known as Linchpin Assistant) are part of the Linchpin Intranet Suite since the last release of the suite. With this release, we are making this a final decision and ending the life of the former standalone Linchpin Manager. And as you might have noticed in the title, the Linchpin Assistant is now named Linchpin Pings.

Changes

  • The Linchpin Assistant is now called Linchpin Pings.
  • We changed the name of the Linchpin Manager API to Linchpin Suite API.
  • The Linchpin Manager will be uninstalled with this release of the Linchpin Intranet Suite.

User Profiles

This release of Linchpin User Profiles heavily concentrates on Org Charts. In fact, we completely re-designed Org Charts.

Improvements

  • We have taken a big step towards better org charts: more interaction, more content, more information in one place. You will love it.
  • We added support for the Germanic umlaut (ä, ö, ü) in user search.

Bugfixes

  • We fixed the issue regarding the fact that editing profile fields sometimes made you scroll a lot.
  • We fixed compatibility issues with the "Custom Space User Management (CSUM)" app
  • We fixed the mobile view in Confluence >7.x
  • We fixed a usability issue within the profile field configuration.
  • Validated phone numbers, which are imported via XML file, no longer block saving the profile if they are invalid.

Microblogging for Confluence

New look, same Microblog. The Microblog received a redesign - we made it more efficient and more modern.

Improvements

  • We refurbished the Microblog design and gave it an up-to-date look. (These are front-end-only changes.)

Bugfixes

  • We fixed a problem regarding searching for hashtags when uppercase letters are included (if you want this to work with existing microposts, please rebuild your search index).

Navigation & Theming

This release contains some bugfixes and improvements. You can define a custom height for the "Linchpin Teaser" macro now. You can also define a maximum dashboard width now.

New feature

  • We provide some more information about the recommended size for login screen background images now.

  • In the navigation menus, external links with multiple query parameters work again now.
  • In the space directory, the correct vCard is shown when hovering over the space creator.
  • Confluence group membership updates correctly update custom landing spaces now.

  • You can now configure the "Linchpin Teaser" macro when Navitabs is installed (was broken in 2.22.0).
  • The "Spaces" macro of the Linchpin Space Directory now doesn't break column layouts in Internet Explorer 11 anymore.
  • Some other small optical bugfixes.

News

News editors can now reject news. Authors of rejected news items will be notified about the reasons. Authors can also revise news that have been scheduled or submitted for approval on their own, now.

Furthermore, the Blueprint Creator is included in Linchpin Enterprise News now.

New features

  • News editors can now reject news items that have been submitted for approval. The author is notified about the reasons.
  • Authors can now revise news that have been scheduled or submitted for approval. Previously, they could not edit those posts.
  • Using the upcoming version 3.1.0 of Blueprint Creator, you can set a publication date, select a teaser image or choose news categories in blog post blueprints.

Improvements

  • You can now beautify your news magazines by including logos or other images.

Bugfixes

  • Instead of displaying news, a blank page was displayed on mobile devices with Confluence 7+. This has been fixed.
  • News that are scheduled and still wait for publication had (under certain circumstances) a bad habit of sending out notifications, claiming they were published when they weren't. This shouldn't happen anymore.
Exception: Admins and news editors might still receive those notifications.

Events

Deleted users are now anonymized properly throughout the entire app. Event categories provide direct links to a pre-filtered event hub. You can now share direct links of single events (and the links should not break in chats).

New features

  • Deleted users are now correctly anonymized throughout the product, making sure it is compliant with GDPR.
  • Event categories now provide a direct link to a pre-filtered view of the event hub.
  • Events now provide a direct link in the context menu that allows sharing via any channel.

Improvements

  • The macro placeholder looks prettier now if there is no data available to display.
  • German localization uses "Du" instead of "Sie" now, for a more personalized user experience.

Bugfixes

  • We fixed an issue with the event blueprint that prevented the creation of new pages with an embedded event.
  • We fixed an issue with ICS files that prevented the event creator from adding an event to the calendar.
  • We fixed an issue where icons were not displayed in hints for Confluence instances with context path.

  • We improved the handling of custom Confluence logos and cleaned up the logging behavior.

Bugfixes

  • We fixed a problem with linked Jira issues when the current disclaimer had not yet been accepted.

Touch

Linchpin Touch is compatible with Confluence 7.4.1. now. Furthermore, we added relevant keywords to the "Hide from touch" macro, so you can find it easier and faster.

Improvements

  • Linchpin Touch is compatible with Confluence 7.4.1 now.
  • We added relevant keywords to the "Hide from touch" macro so you can find it easier and faster.

Launchpad

Launchpad received more and better keywords for its macro so that you can find it easier within the macro browser. Furthermore, we ensured compatibility with Confluence 7.7 and modernized the empty state of the "Launchpad" macro.

Improvements

  • The "Empty State" of the "Launchpad" macro has been revised and modernized. (The status in which no apps are visible to the user, e.g. because there are none available or necessary permissions are missing.)
  • Compatibility with Confluence 7.7 has been ensured.
  • Due to an extended keywording, finding the Launchpad macro is easier and more intuitive now.
