Linchpin – your fully personalized central collaboration hub

Linchpin provides you with a centralized information and collaboration platform, with an open and transparent teamwork environment. Linchpin connects employees, no matter their time or location. Everyone has a personalized user-experience tailored only to them.

Summary & Highlights

The first new feature release for the Linchpin Intranet Suite is finally here - and so much has happened in the last few weeks that we'll first give you a short overview of the most important changes in this update. But don't worry: Detailed release notes are available (or you can use the table of contents on the top of this page to jump directly to the part that you're most excited about).

To start off, please ask yourself a question: Can you describe all of the use cases in which Linchpin supports you and your colleagues? No? That's most likely what 99% of our customers will answer. And now think of a new employee in your company who has to learn how to do their new job and how all of their teams and departments use Linchpin. Plus learn about their colleagues' work. Also take into account that with every new release, this gets more complex... Right, that's quite a lot of information to dig into. With this release of Linchpin we've added a new onboarding module to support new employees and help them get familiar with Linchpin, the most important workflows, and their colleagues. And we have some awesome ideas to further improve user onboarding in the future.

Next, think about some important news from management that you missed because you were out of office for two days, because the blogpost was no longer on your dashboard when you got back. Or that one colleague that always shares their vacation photos in a Confluence blogpost with your team and afterwards complains that nobody noticed ("I mean, it's only 297 pictures I took at the beach during sunset - My favorite is number 182, what's yours?"). With Linchpin's news digest functionality you'll never miss any important (or maybe even less important) news - since you'll receive automatic notifications in your email inbox.

Finally, think of the space directory in your intranet. Yes, exactly that space directory, the one that looks by now quite long in the tooth. That space directory that you barely use. Exactly that space directory... Alright, you've got the point. We completely redesigned the look and feel and added a bunch of useful new features, like space categories to help you quickly find the information you're looking for.

New Features

  • Localization: Translate Confluence, apps, and even several field values into languages you need. We'll extend this functionality to be available for even more Linchpin features in the near future.
  • VERSION 1.1.5 Data Center approval: With the release of version 1.1.5 Linchpin Intranet Suite is approved for use with Confluence Data Center.

Security Fixes

  • VERSION 1.1.6 XSS vulnerability for page excerpts in the macros Covers Stories, Personal News Feed and Corporate News Feed.
  • VERSION 1.1.6 XSS vulnerability for video URLs in video news teasers.
  • VERSION 1.1.6 XSS vulnerabilities for page title and space name in news scheduling overview.

Bugfixes

  • VERSION 1.1.6 Issue with the licence detection after update that deactivated the personalization.

Onboarding & Assistance

With the all-new Onboarding module you can now guide new employees and Confluence users through the initial user setup process easily. Do you want users to provide essential profile information (for personalization) or upload a profile picture right at the start? Simply define a number of steps for the Onboarding wizard that each new user has to complete before receiving full access to the wonderful world of your Linchpin intranet.

On top of that, Linchpin now supports configurable reminders that you can broadcast to all users in the system. No more outdated profile information or excuses about missing newly created news subscriptions - with the new reminder functionality in Linchpin you can manage all of that conveniently.

New Features

  • Onboarding wizard for users: Configure an onboarding wizard for new (or existing) users that replaces the default Confluence onboarding.
    • Users can be asked to fill out profile fields or upload their avatar picture.
    • New users can be prompted to subscribe to news from specific spaces to set up their personal news feeds during the onboarding process.
  • Assistant for system-wide reminders: Configure reminders for your users to fill out certain profile fields they haven't yet done.
    • Actively offer news channels for subscription to existing users in a notice pop-up.
    • Each reminder can be scheduled to be shown daily, once a week, once a month or whatever suits your needs.
    • Each notice can be scheduled to only be shown once for each user instead of repeatedly.
    • Each notice can have a start and expiry date, so you can prepare notices in advance and don't forget to disable the notices when they lose relevance.

User Profiles & Terms of Use

When it comes to the heart of Linchpin - the user profiles - we have improved performance by 'a lot'. And by 'a lot' we really do mean it, especially when embedding multiple profile macros into a single Confluence page.

Also, we have added some powerful new functionality to the Linchpin's Terms of Use module: You can now provide rich text terms for your intranet - and deliver them in multiple languages as well.

New Features

  • Rich text terms of use: There is a new WYSIWYG editor with support for HTML-styled terms of use, so it's easier for you to create and edit your terms.
    • Your present terms will be migrated, so there's no loss of data.
    • For terms with HTML tags, you can still use a HTML editor (not supported by us).

Improvements

  • We have improved the overall performance massively, for example when using multiple Profile macros on a single page.
  • The Content Responsibility macro can now display the profile fields "email", "username" and "full name" and shows values from multi-select fields correctly.
  • We've ensured compatibility with Secure Login (2FA) and Enterprise Password Policy for terms of use.

Bugfixes

  • Renaming or archiving pages that use the Content Responsibility macro should now work correctly.
  • Having deleted users as contacts should no longer produce errors.
  • You can now correctly select a profile field to be shown in the Content Responsibility macro.
  • We've made various fixes to the Custom User List macro PDF support.
  • Fixed profile editing issues for profile editors.
  • Fixed some issues that occurred when usernames had a leading "0" (zero).
  • Fixed profile views by anonymous users.
  • Fixed some issues with caching data related to terms of use.
  • Fixed some minor issues with displaying various content in terms of use.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented synching more than one connected LDAP server.

Navigation & Theming

The space directory now fits in perfectly with the rest of Linchpin's central hubs (like for news or events). Say goodbye to Confluence's slightly outdated and ugly default space directory and welcome our newly redesigned version that reflects the look and feel of your Linchpin intranet. We have also added some new functionality like space categories to help you organize your company's spaces more conveniently and efficiently.

On top of that, we have completely rebuilt the sidebar that comes with Linchpin to make it ready for all the changes that ship with Confluence 6.14 and above (such as the new search sidebar). We've also slightly changed the way administrators and menu editors access their corresponding admin panels - you can now find all important links right next to your profile icon in the header bar.

New Features

  • Redesigned space directory: We have customized the style of the space directory, so it matches the other Linchpin hubs, e.g., Launchpad, Microblogging and News hub.
    • Switch between a list and tile view.
    • See more information about a space without leaving the Space Directory.
    • Create space types to cluster different categories, so there's more structure within the Space Directory.
    • Enjoy the new color set that ships with the default theme.
  • Headline with menu macro: This new macro allows you to insert a heading to any Confluence page that comes with a context menu where you can provide additional links to related content.

Improvements

  • The 'Edit' button for users with menu editor permission is now integrated into the Confluence header.
  • We have completely rebuilt the sidebar so that it feels similar to the one Atlassian implemented in Confluence 6.14. In addition to your favorite pages, contacts, and apps, we have also integrated some activity data into the sidebar to make it even more valuable: recently visited pages, recently edited content, and recent spaces.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed a minor issue regarding menu personalization occurring when group memberships change.

  • We no longer reset users' site homepages when the custom landing spaces feature isn't in use.

News

We've been working hard to extend Linchpin's news module with two all-new features. The news digest allows administrators to send regular email updates on any news channel in Linchpin to a specified group of users. This is especially useful for important messages from upper management that needs to be seen by every employee. The news hub presents users with a centralized overview of all news channels and categories. It also functions as daily work tool for corporate communications to manage and create news content.

New Features

  • News hubThe news hub replaces the news center and inherits all of its features. Additionally, you can easily create news posts directly from the hub and configure which information you want to show in the list view of your news.
  • News digestSend blog posts via email to your users on a regular basis so they are kept up-to-date and to entice them to visit your Linchpin-based intranet.
    • Specify the sender name and email address of your news digest.
    • Set individual users or user groups as recipients of your news email.
    • Choose a subject and an introductory text for the email.
    • Configure a customized schedule for the digest emails.
    • Define which blog posts will be sent by creating rules to filter by spaces and labels.
    • Filter blog posts by news categories.
    • Use the preview to see how your configured news digest will look like.
    • Notice that the digest email respects your corporate design.
  • Filters for scheduled news: We have added space filtering to the news scheduling overview.

Improvements

  • Improved support for anonymous news access.
  • VERSION 1.1.6 Corporate news feed in mobile view now has a "show older news" button.

Bugfixes

  • You can now delete spaces that have scheduled news (i.e. when  a corresponding "Linchpin Enterprise News workflow space" exists).
  • We have improved the handling of publishing dates for unpublished news.
  • We have fixed an issue that resulted in a broken sidebar and footer in case of anonymous access to the news hub.
  • Changes in news categories are accepted immediately in macro outputs.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented news teaser images from being displayed in news feed macros.
  • VERSION 1.1.6 The news scheduling overview can now filter space names with special characters like "(".
  • VERSION 1.1.6 News post links from the Cover Stories are opened in the same tab again.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed some microblog display errors for slim layouts.
  • Fixed an issue with the microblog timeline jumping on a button click.

Events

We also fixed a ton of bugs that occurred after we rebuilt events in Linchpin from scratch. A big shoutout at this point to all users have have reported bugs to the development team - Thank you!

  • As a Confluence administrator you can now always edit the participants attending an event, even if when the event has limited users to sign only themselves up or cancel their attendance.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented 'Recent activities' from displaying correctly on the Confluence dashboard when an 'Event list' macro is integrated in the instance's welcome message.
  • Fixed an issue with triggering the 'Create new event' dialogue when editing an event macro within a Confluence page
  • The filter for an event list macro now uses the 'OR' connector instead of the 'AND' (restoring the previous macro behavior).
  • Fixed an issue with ICS export for full-day events.
  • Fixed an issue with displaying an event's date and time according to the instance's time format settings.
  • Fixed an issue with uploading / updating event images when using Microsoft Internet Explorer / Microsoft Edge browser.

It's now possible to copy a Confluence URL to your mobile device's clipboard which the app then can detect and open automatically. And in case some errors occur while browsing your intranet via mobile, you can send an error log directly to the development team.

New Features

  • Automatic URL detection: You can now open Confluence page URLs you receive within the mobile app! Simply copy a Confluence URL to your mobile device's clipboard (from an email, a chat conversation, etc.), open your intranet app, and follow the prompt that auto-detects the URL on the clipboard.
  • Submit error log files: You can now send a technical stack trace directly to the mobile app development team via email when you see an error - simply tap on the error prompt. Important: You can fully disable this feature in the app settings (which can be found in the 'More' tab). The information sent does not contain any personal or corporate data.
