The client

Meyer Werft GmbH & Co. KG is a German ship building company that is known for it's large shipyard in Papenburg (located in the county of Emsland). In 1795, MEYER WERFT took up business for the first time in Papenburg. For over 200 years, a variety of ships have been built by the experts and specialists of the family business. In order to be able to compete internationally with other shipyards, production technology had to constantly be expanded. Thus, MEYER WERFT shipyard now has the world's most modern ship building facilities.

The Task

Development of an intranet solution from Confluence-Basis for circa 3,500 users.

The goal was to offer a single intranet solution to various different locations with different languages and to customize the solution for the individual user. Additionally, a channel to share corporate news easily and user friendly was to be created.

The project "On Board" has the goal to set up Confluence, JIRA, and Sharepoint as a platform for digital collaboration. The intranet project represents communication, information and services and is the foundation for project "On Board" as well as it's technological extension. A quality management based on Confluence is being created. Additionally, various processes are to be supported with JIRA.

The Solution

Design-Adaptation:

The intranet is provided with an individual Confluence theme, that corresponds with the company to give the employees a comfortable, familiar impression. Also, numerous usability and functional optimizations of the Confluence standard interface were made, which makes it easier for users to work with the Intranet as a work tool.

Globale Navigation:

The intranet supports openly configurable global navigation menus that can be customized for different user groups. These with other forms of personalization are planned in the later course of the project.

Individual App-Store:

Directly from the intranet home page, each user can control the internal and external applications that are personally relevant to them simply by clicking on them.
The applications shown can be assembled by the user. The functions also offer recommended apps to the user.

Advanced User Profile:

Thanks to extended user profiles, the intranet offers the possibility of a company-wide expert search, which allows contacts to be identified quickly in a specific subject area with a single search query.

News Channels:

There is the possibility to broadcast company news in the intranet on target groups, e.g. restricted to specific user groups.

The function is initially used on the basis of existing content. (Further refinement is provided in the upcoming steps.)

Integrated Applications:

Forums, offers/searches (Blackboard), Discussion forums, and "carpooling" (still in planning).

Technology

Confluence, Java,
Also JIRA as a quality management aid in the future.

Workwise
